So when they announced the closure of Muppet*Vision 3D and the entire Muppet Courtyard, we were genuinely sad. Because for us, it wasn’t just the back corner of Hollywood Studios, it was our corner. And that may sound dramatic, but if you’ve ever watched Swedish Chef yeet a chicken while yelling “börk börk börk,” you understand.

Then Disney Gave Us One Tiny Crumb… and Suddenly, I Had A BRILLIANT Idea

The retheme of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster to the Electric Mayhem? Great.

The announcement that the surrounding area would become Muppets-themed, with Rock Around the Shop and FØØD by Swedish Chef?

Even better.

But then, as if becoming possessed by The Great Gonzo, my brain launched itself out of a cannon, because if there are already Muppets on Sunset Boulevard, why stop with one attraction?

THE DREAM: Build the NEW Muppet Courtyard at the End of Sunset Boulevard

And yes, this is just my own fever dream sequence. No rumors. No insider leaks. No Imagineer cousin or best friend. Just me and my deep, emotional attachment to felt. But hear me out. If Disney really wants to commit, they should create an entirely new Muppet district anchored by two, maybe three attractions. We already got Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets, but what else?

Retheme Tower of Terror, But Make it Muppet Chaos (Please Read Before Pelting Me with Tomatoes...or Chickens)

Let me preface this with The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror is my favorite Disney ride that isn’t Haunted Mansion. But it’s already right next door to Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster.

Image the same ride system, the same thrills, the same eerie abandoned hotel...except instead of Rod Serling narrating, it’s Gonzo and Pepe the King Prawn trying to host a “perfectly safe” hotel experience. Checking in?

Think the vibe of Muppets Haunted Mansion, but with elevator drops, exploding props, and Pepe confidently insisting nothing can go wrong moments before everything absolutely does.

Honestly, this attraction writes itself. We all know The Great Gonzo lives for reckless stunts. Pepe is absolutely someone who should not be allowed to run a hotel.

Search your feelings. You know it’s true. Wait....wrong IP.

Bring Back Everything They Removed

If you’re moving The Muppets, then move all of it. Bring back the fountain, Muppet*Vision 3D, the goofy jokes (I loved the key under the mat), and bring back Gonzo’s Royal Flush (seriously those were the BEST bathrooms in the park).

And yes, Muppet*Vision is old. And corny. And outdated. But it was the final work of Jim Henson, and it deserves to live forever. Not every attraction needs to be cutting-edge. Sometimes nostalgia is enough. Sometimes a little old school chaos in crisp, cool air conditioning is EXACTLY what you need to save that “magical” vacation.

(Also, I’m pretty sure Sam Eagle would agree, it’s pretty un-American to call it irrelevant.)

Expand the Land with Muppet-Themed Food Places

That corner of the park already has a huge quick-service area, why not retheme it for the Muppets? Bring back PizzaRizzo, but just as a pizza-by-the-slice window. It’s perfect and a throwback to the OG land.

Pete’s Diner - a quick-service diner serving diner classics, like patty melts, grilled cheese, and milkshakes, themed to the diner from The Muppets Take Manhattan. And yes, the staff would be animatronic rat servers. LEAN IN, people!

The Cluck Hut - similar to The Poultry Palace at Disney’s California Adventure, this spot would ONLY serve chicken. Chicken drumsticks, chicken nuggets, chicken tenders. That’s it. Only, in true Muppet fashion, it’s run by Camilla and the Chickens!

MuppetLabs Snack Counter - run by Dr. Bunsen Honeydew and Beaker. Half the snacks should accidentally smoke, spark, or explode. This isn’t lunch. This isn’t practical. It is pure Imagineering art on full display.

Build the ONE RIDE DIsney Should’ve Made From the Beginning: The Great Muppet Movie Ride

The Great Muppet Movie Ride was a REAL proposed attraction that died with Jim Henson. But I can guarantee this would become an INSTANT favorite. And not just because you’re missing The Great Movie Ride.

The concept: guests take a backstage tour of Muppet Studios, where the gang attempts to recreate famous movie scenes. Predictably, everything goes wrong. Beautifully wrong. Think Miss Piggy as a aggravated Tinker Bell. Beaker as Frankenstein’s Monster. Fozzie as Frankenstein, operating dangerous electrical equipment. A Wizard of Oz parody featuring Miss Piggy. A Pigs in Space finale with lasers and collapsing sets.

Because The Muppets never miss when they’re parodying something real. It’s kind of their thing. Shakespeare, Treasure Island, Christmas Carol...they NEVER miss.

Why This Actually Makes Sense

This would strengthen the identity of Hollywood Studios, when it used to celebrate moviemaking. Behind-the-scenes effects, studio backlots, fake movie sets. The glory days. (RIP Backlot Tour)

The Muppets fit that concept perfectly because they’re about performance. They’re literally chaotic entertainers running a theater where everything continually goes sideways. Now, they can run a theater, recording studio, and movie studio. Think Meet-and-Greets, Muppet street shows (hello, the return of the Citizens of Hollywood), Holiday performances. A dedicated Muppet Land that feels alive with magic, music, and the perfect amount of hijinks.

This would bring some of that “working studio” magic back while giving Disney a beloved IP that spans generations. And unlike some franchises, the Muppets don’t need a cinematic universe in order to work. They’re timeless. And they just need a stage and enough room for things to explode.

Am I Crazy? Probably...

This entire idea may belong in a Muppet Labs prototype marked “Do Not Activate.” But I can’t stop thinking how perfect this would be. Two thrill rides for adults/big kids. A dark ride and a show for the whole family. Countless food options. I mean, they created a PICKLE MILKSHAKE and called it “Muppet Labs” and we all ate it up (and it was shockingly good). So I can’t help but think the interest is there!

Disney has the characters, the location, the Imagineers, the fanbase....all they really need to do is go full felt.

I always think I’m prepared for the big stuff when we travel. Flights. Hotel. Tickets. Snacks. Backup snacks. What catches me off guard every time, though, is the in-between.

The hour in the hotel room before dinner. The delayed shuttle. The crowded lobby. That weird stretch where everyone is tired, overstimulated, and somehow still expected to transition calmly to the next thing. That’s where our trips usually get tested. Enter: Reset Moves.

The need to move through sensory overload does not disappear just because someone gets older.

Now it’s one of those things we automatically bring along, like chargers and headphones. Not because we use it constantly, but because when the day starts going sideways, it’s one of the few things that helps EVERYONE reset.

Travel is supposed to be about the memories you make, not the meltdowns you spend all day trying to avoid. Add this tool to your travel checklist to help make trips feel less stressful and a lot more manageable. Sometimes the smallest changes make the biggest difference, especially when the goal is helping every traveler feel supported, regulated, and included.

Universal Kids Resort is opening in 2026, and while I may be past the stage of planning trips around little-kid nap schedules, I immediately thought of the younger nieces and nephews in the family.

The ones who absolutely light up when they see SpongeBob SquarePants, laugh through every scene of Shrek, and would lose their minds over meeting a Minion in real life, but probably aren’t quite ready to power through a full day at Universal Orlando Resort.

That’s the thing about the big parks. They’re incredible, but they can also be a lot for younger kids. The walking alone can wear out adults, never mind the preschool set. Add heat, lines, overstimulation, and the occasional total collapse over a snack, and suddenly your dream park day becomes a stroller negotiation.

That’s what makes this new Universal concept so interesting.

It’s built specifically for younger kids, the ones who are old enough to know all the characters, talk about the trip for months, and remember the experience, but not quite big enough for giant coasters, long park days, and the full commitment of Orlando.

Honestly, it feels like Universal finally noticed there’s a whole generation of little fans in between “too young” and “ready for the big parks,” and built an entire destination around that.

It’s Not Orlando, and That’s the Point

A lot of parents hear “Universal” and picture the giant parks in Florida. The iconic globe, massive roller coasters, endless walking, and the kind of park day where everyone is exhausted before dinner but still insists on staying for one more ride.

That works when the kids are older.

But younger children experience theme parks differently. The ride isn’t always the point. Sometimes the best part is meeting a favorite character, splashing in a water area for forty minutes, or dancing in front of a stage like it’s the greatest concert of their life.

This park seems built around that exact reality.

Universal Kids Resort is designed for younger families, which means gentler attractions, interactive spaces, and a smaller footprint that feels far more manageable. The idea isn’t to cram in every ride possible. It’s to create a day where younger kids can actually enjoy themselves without hitting a wall halfway through.

Parents may enjoy it more too.

The Characters Are the Real Draw

What makes this especially smart is the lineup of characters.

Universal didn’t pick random properties. They chose the ones younger kids already know and love right now.

There’s an entire land built around Gabby’s Dollhouse, which is a huge win for families with younger children. If you’ve ever watched a little one stop everything the second Gabby comes on screen, you already know how big this will be.

The central area, called Isle of Curiosity, sounds like the kind of place where kids can simply roam, play, snack, and dance. That may not sound thrilling to adults, but for little kids, a place where they can move freely and meet familiar characters often becomes the best part of the trip.

Then there’s the swamp.

Shrek is getting its own themed land, and honestly, it sounds exactly as chaotic as it should be. Splash areas, storybook spaces, and plenty of opportunities for kids to run wild while adults try to stay dry.

It feels like a good reminder that for younger kids, immersive often matters more than intense. Being inside the world they recognize is the magic.

SpongeBob May Steal the Whole Show

Of everything announced so far, Bikini Bottom might be the one younger kids talk about most.

There’s something about SpongeBob SquarePants that seems to work across generations. The kids love it. The adults know the jokes. Everyone somehow ends up singing the theme song.

The idea of walking into Bikini Bottom, riding the Barnacle Bus, wandering through Jellyfish Fields, and grabbing something at Goofy Goober feels like one of those rare attractions that lands just as well for the adults tagging along.

The same goes for the Trolls area, which appears to be pure colorful chaos in the best possible way. Music, dancing, balloons, glitter, basically everything designed to send small children into maximum happiness and complete exhaustion.

And if there’s one thing family travelers know, a happily exhausted kid is the best souvenir.

Dinosaurs and Minions: The Chaos Section

The younger kids who aren’t into glitter and dance parties will probably head straight for Jurassic World.

Universal is creating a scaled-down version of that world with milder attractions and baby dinosaur experiences. Which is either adorable or the start of a months-long request for a pet velociraptor.

Probably both.

Then there’s the Minions area, which looks like the resort’s dedicated splash zone. The kind of place where kids get soaked, laugh hysterically, and immediately want to do it all again.

There’s something refreshing about a park leaning into that age group where splashing in water can outrank every expensive attraction.

Because for younger kids, it usually does.

The Hotel Might Be the Best Part for Adults

The onsite Universal Kids Resort Hotel may quietly be one of the smartest parts of the entire concept.

Family suites. Bunk-style layouts. Early entry. A dedicated entrance to the park.

That last one matters more than it sounds.

Anyone who has ever helped carry a sleeping five-year-old through a parking lot while balancing a souvenir cup, sunscreen bag, and somebody’s abandoned stuffed animal understands why.

The easier the logistics, the better the trip. That’s especially true when younger kids are involved.

Why This Could Be a Great First Universal Trip

I actually think this may work best as a family’s first Universal experience.

Not because Florida isn’t worth doing. It absolutely is. But it’s easy to underestimate how much of those giant parks is built around stamina.

Long lines. Big distances. Packed schedules. The pressure to maximize every minute.

That’s hard on little kids.

This Texas park seems like it removes that pressure and lets families enjoy the fun part: the characters, the play, the atmosphere, and the excitement of seeing those favorite worlds come to life.

That’s enough at this age.

And in some ways, it may be better.

A first park trip should feel exciting, not exhausting.

The Bigger Picture

Universal may have found a category that was missing in family travel.

A real destination park for younger kids who are just starting to grow into these experiences.

The little ones who love the characters. The ones who can’t stop talking about meeting them. The ones who are old enough to remember the trip, but still young enough to fall asleep in the car before you leave the parking lot.

That’s a specific age, and it’s one a lot of family trips overlook.

For the younger nieces, nephews, grandkids, and favorite little travel companions in your life, this feels like one to watch.

And if you’ve been waiting for the right first Universal trip before going all-in on Orlando, this might be exactly it.

PROOF THAT ADULTHOOD IS BETTER WHEN YOU OUTSOURCE YOUR KIDS TO OHIO FOR 2.5 DAYS

There are trips you plan carefully. And then there are trips where four best friends look at each other and say:

“Let’s leave the kids in Ohio and go to Food & Wine for a weekend.”

No further discussion. No spreadsheets. Just vibes. The itinerary was simple, almost aggressively so:

• Day at the pool (specifically, the Cars Pool, because “I want to nap in a parking cone”)

  

• Adult dinner

• EPCOT day for Food & Wine Festival

• Return home like responsible citizens who did not just emotionally transcend time and space via frozen cocktails

We did, in fact, stick to it. We also achieved something I didn’t realize I needed at this stage of life: epic, uninterrupted pool naps.

No one whisper-yelling “MOOOOOM I want a snack!” No one cannonballing into your existential peace. Just sun, silence, booze, and the rare luxury of finishing a thought. It was like being back in college, only inside of a parking cone with a lounge chair and a cocktail.

EPCOT: Where Responsibility Goes to Die (When Your Kids are in Another State)

The next day, we entered EPCOT like we were clocking into a very important job:

Food. Drink. Repeat.

The International Food & Wine Festival is basically a permission slip to behave like a very enthusiastic, slightly dehydrated European tour group, except you never leave Florida and your credit card slowly stops asking questions.

We hit “Eat & Drink Around the World” with the focus of people who had been granted a weekend pass from San Quentin.

And then immediately lost all organizational strategy.

Because here’s the truth no one tells you: you think you’ll share everything. You will not.

You will stand in Germany holding a bratwurst in a pretzel bun while your friend disappears to Morocco for some plant-based dish you wouldn’t touch with a ten-foot pole. Your husbands will be in Norway, flirting with the water lady and getting another Scandinavian beer.

But ultimately, you’ll wear your “First Visit Without Kids” buttons and text them “We’re riding Cosmic Rewind now lol” while holding a beverage that is definitely stronger than it looks.

We were everywhere. Spiritually and geographically.

The Real Festival Strategy: Chaos

We tried to be thoughtful at first: Split things. Share bites. Be civilized.

That lasted approximately 11 minutes. After that it became:

“Oh this is too sweet. I hate it.”
”I LOVE IT!”
”Of course you do.”

“You HAVE TO try this. OMG it’s amazing.”
”OMG WE NEED SIX MORE.”

At one point, we planted ourselves in Italy like we were real estate investors and just… took turns leaving to acquire sustenance. One person for fruit & cheese. One for a glass of wine that “cost more than our mortgage payment.” One for something fried that none of us can pronounce now.

We were functioning as a very inefficient but deeply happy booze-and-snack-based organism.

The Moment It Became Perfectly Absurd

There is a specific kind of joy that hits when you’re halfway through EPCOT, slightly sun-drunk, holding something bubbly, and you get in line to watch Boyz II Men perform live… in Disney World… after eating your way through five continents… while your children are in Ohio eating chicken nuggets.

And you are completely, absurdly okay.

No one needs you.

No one is asking for anything.

You are just a person in a festival shirt, collecting tiny passports stamps like your life depends on it, living entirely in the moment and also mildly unsure what time it is.

Why This Matters More Than It Should

Here’s the thing I didn’t expect:

It wasn’t just fun. It was life-affirming in a low-stakes, high-calorie kind of way.

Because somewhere between the pool naps, the shared plates we stopped trying to share, and the “we should do this every year” declarations that will absolutely become tradition, we remembered what it feels like to be ourselves outside of schedules, band concerts, snacks, carpools, and logistics.

Just friends. Moving from booth to booth like we had nowhere else to be. Which, for one weekend, we didn’t.

Final Thought (Slightly Unhinged but Honest)

If you are reading this while packing lunches or answering “what’s for dinner” for the fourth time today, consider this your sign.

Go.

Leave the kids in Ohio (or wherever your version of Ohio is). Find your EPCOT. Eat something you can’t pronounce. Take a nap that no one interrupts. And text someone from a roller coaster just because you can.

You’ll come back the same person… technically.

But also a little more yourself than you’ve been in a while.

I wasn’t expecting much going into it.

Thanksgiving week at Universal Orlando usually sounds like a recipe for crowds, chaos, and a lot of logistical stress. But we needed something that could actually work for our family without blowing up the budget, so we booked Universal’s Aventura Hotel.

And honestly? It ended up being one of the most surprisingly functional hotel stays we’ve had at Universal Orlando Resort.

Not because it was the most luxurious.

Not because it was the most themed.

But because it just… worked.

Two Connected Rooms Changed Everything for Us

We booked two connected rooms, and that decision basically shaped the entire trip.

If you’ve ever traveled with family then you know the reality: everyone needs space. Connected rooms hit that sweet spot perfectly.

We had enough beds, enough bathrooms, and, most importantly, enough breathing room that nobody felt like they were living on top of each other for several days straight.

Mornings were smoother. Evenings were quieter. Temperatures were perfect. And when someone needed a break from the parks (which, during Thanksgiving week, happens more than you’d think), they actually had a place to go.

That alone made the cost feel more than reasonable.

Space Matters More Than Theming

Aventura isn’t trying to be a themed experience. There’s no over-the-top storytelling, no immersive character environments, none of that.

Instead, the rooms are clean, modern, and designed for function.

And during a packed holiday week, that turned out to be exactly what we needed.

The layout made mornings easier: separate sink and bathroom areas meant multiple people could get ready at once without the usual hotel-room traffic jam. The floor-to-ceiling windows gave the space a little calm, even when we were all half-awake and trying to get out the door for early park entry.

It wasn’t fancy.

But it was efficient in a way that actually reduced stress.

The Biggest Win: Getting to the Parks Without Thinking About It

One of the things I underestimated before staying here was just how much mental energy gets saved when transportation is simple.

From Universal Volcano Bay being right next door to easy shuttle access across Universal Studios Florida, Universal Islands of Adventure, and Universal’s Epic Universe, everything felt… streamlined.

No complicated routing. No long waits figuring out what bus goes where. No overthinking.

We’d leave the room, hop on transportation, and just be there.

And during Thanksgiving week that simplicity mattered more than anything else.

The Rhythm of the Trip Became Easier

Something I didn’t expect was how quickly we fell into a rhythm:

• Early entry in the morning

• Midday break back at the hotel

• Dinner somewhere easy or inside the resort

• Back to the parks or winding down

That midday break, in particular, only worked because the hotel was close and easy to navigate. The shuttles come on the regular, so there isn’t a ton of “GEEZ! Where is the BUS?” If we had stayed off-site, I’m not sure we would’ve bothered returning at all.

But here, it didn’t feel like a production. It just felt natural.

The Hotel Itself is Quietly Designed for Real Families

Looking back, Aventura feels like a hotel built around real travel behavior rather than fantasy immersion.

Things like:

• Connected rooms for larger groups

• Simple, intuitive room layouts

• Fast elevators and easy flow in and out

• Food options that don’t require planning ahead

It’s not trying to impress you with spectacle.

It’s trying to make a busy trip easier to survive and enjoy.

Why it Worked So Well During Thanksgiving Specifically

Thanksgiving week at Universal is not subtle. It’s busy, loud, and nonstop.

And that’s exactly why Aventura worked.

We didn’t need more stimulation inside the hotel. We needed:

• Space to decompress

• Easy transportation

• Predictable routines

• A place that didn’t add chaos to an already chaotic trip

Aventura gave us all of that without asking for much in return. The simplicity actually helped with the stimulation slowdown. For us, traveling with tons of different neurospiciness, this is exactly what the “doctor” ordered!

Final Thoughts: I Didn’t Expect to Like It This Much

If you had asked me before the trip whether I thought a modern, minimalist Universal hotel would work for a family Thanksgiving vacation, I probably would’ve been skeptical.

But Universal’s Aventura Hotel surprised me.

Not because it was over the top.

But because it quietly removed friction from a trip that could’ve easily been overwhelming.

And for our family (two connected rooms, park-heavy days, and peak-season crowds) that was the difference between feeling exhausted the whole time… and actually enjoying it.

Would I stay there again?

For this kind of trip? Absolutely.

Because sometimes the best hotel isn’t the one you remember for its theme.

It’s the one that just makes everything else work better.
